Council Bluffs, IA -- Iowa Western played Indian Hills this Sunday and picked up two more conference wins.
Julie Katz took the mound in game won and struck out the first three batters she faced.
Iowa Western went quietly in their half of the first.
The second inning had a lot of action for third baseman Logon Brown. Brown was able to track down two foul balls. Katz finished off the inning with another strikeout.
The game remained scoreless until the fourth inning. Carlie Benes lead off the inning with a bunt single. Reamer followed and hit a groun ball that Indian Hills attempted to get the lead runner at second but the defender missed the base and the Reivers had two aboard. Shortstop Tyla Lee was up to the plate next. Benes and Reamer were each able to move up a base on a ball in the dirt to the catcher. Lee then hit a ball in the right-center gap that scored both Benes and Reamer when the outfielder couldn't quite make the play.
Indian Hills earned their first hit and run of the game in the 5th inning with a solo shot off of Katz. The defense collected outs quickly after and was able to hold the lead at 3-1.
With two outs in the bottom of the fifth Brown was able to earn the first walk of the day. Natalie Gunn was brought in to pinch run for Brown. At the plate, Lily Gregory earned her first hit of the day, blasting a ball down the third base line that ended at the fence. Gunn scored and Gregory landed on second base. Benes was back at the plate and hit another double scoring Gregory. The Reivers ended the inning with a lead of 5-1.
The Warriros began the next inning with their second solo shot of the day decreasing Iowa Westerns' lead to 5-2. Katz fired back with two strikeouts. Benes ended the inning by track down a deep ball in the left-center gap.
Lee added another run in the sixth when she launched a solo shot over the left center field fence.
Iowa Western took game one with a final score of 5-2. Katz threw a complete game with 11 strikeouts on the day.
Game two started with Sophomore Sydney Reamer on the mound. Reamer walked the first batter. The defense collected outs efficiently and kept Indian Hills scoreless in the first.
To begin the Reivers half of the inning, Benes soft slapped a ball that she beat out to first base. Reamer then stepped up to the plate and scorched a ball over the left field fence to give the Reivers and early two run lead. Allison O'Driscoll and Alyssa Maldonado would follow with singles, and Kim reached base first on a walk. Gunn had an infield single to score a O'Driscoll. The Reivers left the bases loaded and ended the inning with a 3-0 lead.
Iowa Western's defense continued to be lights out, keeping Indian Hills scoreless until the fifth. They scored two runs by two solo shots off of Reamer. Iowa Western led by one with a score of 3-2.
Iowa Western manufactured another run in the sixth inning. Alyssa Maldonado started the inning with a walk. A sacrifice bunt by Kim moved Maldonado into scoring position. With two outs Cassiddy Beeby stepped up at the plate and hit a line drive double off the top of the fence that scored Maldonado.
The Reivers won game two with a final score of 4-2. Reamer pitched seven innings with four strikeouts.
Iowa Western has a 24-14 overall record and a 5-1 record in conference play. The Reivers play another home series this Tuesday against Johnson County Community College at 1 and 3.
