Softball snaps 13-game win streak with split

Council Bluffs, IA – The Reivers finally saw their 13-game win streak come to an end on Thursday with a split against the #8 ranked Highland CC of NJCAA Division 2.  Iowa Western took the first game of the day 2-0 but fell in the nightcap 9-0.

Julie Katz was the story in game one, throwing a two-hitter while striking out seven and not allowing a runner past second base through the complete game win.  Allison O'Driscoll doubled and later was brought in on a walk to help the home team gain a 1-0 advantage in the second inning.  IWCC would score their second run in the fourth inning when Tyla Lee brought home Carlie Benes with a single.  That would be all Katz would need to run her record to 9-2 and lowering her ERA to a 1.58.

In the second game, Michaela Epp was just as sharp in the circle through five innings, scattering three hits and allowing just one runner to finally reach third base at the end of the fifth.  However, in the sixth, Highland exploded for nine runs in the inning and the Reivers could not get anything done offensively.

With the split, Iowa Western moves to 21-13 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.  The Reivers will host Southeastern CC on Friday at 2pm at the Reiver Sports Complex.
