Spring Break got a bit sunnier for the Reivers on Wednesday in Florida.  A stellar pitching performance and timely defense and hitting earned the Reivers their first win on their trip to Florida.

Freshman RHP Julie Katz stifled the Titans of Eastern Florida State in Game 1, striking out 6 in a complete game performance.  Katz kept the ESFC hitters off balance in key situations, making key pitches to put her defense in position to strand 6 Titan runners in scoring position.

The Reivers trailed 1-0 into the 6th before the line started moving. 

Sophomores Lily Gregory and Tyla Lee led off the inning with back to back singles before Freshman Madysen Kim bunted them both into scoring position.  Sophomore Alyssa Maldonado Soto, working on keeping her swing flat, lifted a 3-2 pitch to right centerfield that carried over the wall for her 4th homerun of the season.  She rounded the bases and 'apologized' to Head Coach Ben Greer as she headed to the plate, a much needed light-hearted moment for the Reivers.  Sydney Reamer, 4-5 in the double-header, followed with a double and scored 1 batter later when Freshman Cassiddy Beeby doubled her home for a 4-1 lead.  

The Titans got a run back in the bottom of the 6th before the Reivers closed out the 4-2 victory on a fly ball to left in the 7th.  

Staked to a 1-0 lead off an RBI groundout by Tyla Lee in Game 2, the Reivers held the Titans at bay until the 6th.  With 2 outs in the inning, EFSC blasted a 2-run homer to left and from there the floodgates opened for the home team.  Reamer suffered the loss despite a solid outing.

The Reivers have Thursday off before heading to Ft. Pierce to face Indian River State College for a pair of games.

NOTE: The Reivers name isn't a stranger to Melbourne, the site of the NJCAA D1 Women's Soccer Championships where the Reivers Women's Soccer team won the NJCAA National Championship in 2013.  The field where the Reivers won their championship abuts the Titans Softball field on the ESFC Campus.
