Softball picks up two wins in KC

Kansas City, KS -- Iowa Western softball continued their winning streak by beating Ellsworth Community College twice in Kansas City on Thursday.

 

The Reivers started off the first game offensively with a solo home run by sophomore outfielder Lily Gregory, who also scored again on a wild pitch in the third inning to advance the Reivers lead to 2-0. The bats finally came alive in the fourth inning with a homerun by freshman Madysen Kim. Iowa Western used that momentum to score two additional that inning to make their lead 5-0. Defensively, the Panthers were shut out by freshman pitcher Julie Katz, who pickedup the complete game win in the circle with 12 strikeouts. Katz moved her record for the season moves to 3-0.   

 

Game two for the Reivers saw sophomore Sydney Reamer in the circle. Despite some control issues, Reamer had a solid outing, striking out ten while surrending three runs in 4 2/3 innings.  Avery Doucet struck out the only batter she saw in relief.  Offensively, the bats started to come alive in the second, scoring three runs, capped by a triple from lead-off batter Carlie Benes. Iowa Western added a run in the third but the bats exploded in the 4th inning.  Lily Gregory had a three run double in the inning and Madysen Kim added a two run homerun.  In all, the Reivers scored six runs in the fourth to put the lead 10-3.  Iowa Western finished the run-rule win in the fifth when slapper Natalie Gunn led off the inning with a double and was followed by an RBI single from Logon Brown.

 

Iowa Western moves to a 7-5 record. The Reivers head to Florida to face #1 ranked Florida SouthWestern State on Monday.
