Reivers Split with #17 NEO A&M

Miami, OK --  The Reivers hit the road this Sunday to leave the blistering cold and battle Northeast Oklahoma A&M (#17) in Miami, Oklahoma. The Reivers came out eager to play starting off the opening inning of the double header with two runs. The Golden Norsemen responded to the Reivers intense start and put up six runs at the bottom of the first inning. Although the Reivers were put into a deficit early, they continued their intense demeanor and showed their fight. A pitching change and cleaning up their game defensively held the Norsemen to three more runs for the remainder at of the game. Through their efforts, the Reivers put up another two runs in the second and sixth innings. Iowa Western fought back hard but came up short the first game with a final score of 9-6 for game one.

After a brief intermission between games the Reivers were hungry to take game two.  A leadoff walk, a double, and back-to-back homeruns from sophomores Tyla Lee and Alyssa Maldonado put the Reivers up four runs in the first inning. The Reivers offense was silenced in the second inning, but came back loud in the third inning with a second home run of the game for Maldonado driving in two runs. Situational hitting brought in another run for Iowa Western in the third. The Reivers refused to let up and put up another two runs in the fourth inning.

Defensively Iowa Western showed dominance in the field throughout the entire game with their hustle and passion. Sophomore Sydney Reamer pitched a gem holding the Norsemen to a mere two hits and one run.

When asked about the game, she reported, "It feels amazing holding a nationally ranked team to one run. My team was behind me and I knew they were going to do everything they could to stop anything that came their way. I knew I had to come with everything I had and fight for my team in the circle. When NEO tried to get something going my girls were behind me to shut them down."

The Reivers were able to head home early with their first win of the season as they run ruled NEO with a final score of 9-1.
