Softball sweeps four game home-stand

Council Bluffs, IA – The Reivers picked up four home wins on Wednesday and Thursday.  They pushed their home record to 10-0 and 16-4 overall on the season with 9-3, 14-6 wins over Northeast CC and 13-1, 8-0 over Concordia University JV.  Iowa Western now has a seven game winning streak and started receiving votes in the last national polls.

 

Northeast

Michaela Epp got the start in game one and scatted 10 hits while striking out five and giving up three earned runs.  Iowa Western's bats provided three runs in the first, third, and sixth innings to pace the scoring.  Tyla Lee led the way, going 3-4 with a solo shot and plating three times.  Zoe Hicks was 2-4 with two doubles.  Allison O'Driscoll and Alyssa Maldonado also notched doubles in the 9-3 win.

 

In game two, Alison Arndt picked up the win over six innings of work in her first collegiate start.  Lily Gregory and Michal Bilger, both of Boise, ID led the way for the Reivers at the plate.  The Boise duo drove in 8 of the 14 runs, Gregory with 5 RBI's and Bilger with 3 RBI's including a two run double and a solo homerun.  The game ended via run-rule 14-6 after the sixth inning.

 

Concordia

The Reivers used an 11-run first inning to start the day in game one, cruising to a 13-1 victory.  Michaela Epp again picked up the win in five innings of work, only allowing three hits while striking out five.  Celia Valencia led the way at the plate going 3-4, including two triples in the first inning.

 

Alison Arndt notched another victory in game two.  This time throwing a two-hitter while striking out four.  Lily Gregory and Michal Bilger again had big days offensively, collecting three hits each.  Gregory plated three times while driving in a run and Bilger hit two doubles while driving in three during the 8-0 win.

 

Lily Gregory felt good about the four game home-stand, "Whether it was offense or defense, we managed to shut them down and play the game like we know how."

 

Schedule Changes

Iowa Western has moved their home game with North Platte from March 18th to March 24th at 2pm.  They've also picked up a game at a neutral site with Crowder College for the Sunday, March 18th.  Games times to be determined.
