Reivers Win Region 11 Championships

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa - The Iowa Western Men's and Women's Track & Field team took home the 2023 Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Region 11 championships on Sunday afternoon.  The Reivers dominated on the women's side for the second year in a row, defeating Iowa Central by 77 points.  The Reivers won titles in 13 events including three athletes winning multiple events.  Miracle Ailes doubled up in the long jump and high jump, Ethel Amissah won the 200m & 400m, and Tyjah Thompson won the discus and hammer throws.

On the men's side, the team pulled out a 23-point victory over the Tritons to win their second region title in a row; the Reivers won 10 events along the way.  Like Amissah before him, Tahj Hamm brought home the 200m & 400m championships.

The Reivers also broke multiple meet records over the weekend.  Jayden Brown broke the men's 400m hurdles record with a time of 51.00s, Odayne Harris shattered the men's javelin record with a throw of 60.09m, Brandon Gayle broke the men's shot put record with a mark of 17.24m, and Miracle Ailes continues her record-breaking career, setting the bar for the women's long jump with a mark of 6.32m, edging out last years winner, Victory George by .01m.

The Reivers will now head to the NJCAA National Championships on May 18-20 in Hobbs, NM.
