Reivers Race to Runner-Up Finish at ICCAC Championships

Warrensburg, Missouri

LeeAaron Berks won the 600 meters and Michael Buchanan won the long jump and the Reivers had several runner-up performances on Saturday at the ICCAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, but it wasn't enough to knock off perennial power Iowa Central.

The Reivers fell 70 points short of knocking off the Tritons but secured a runner-up performance over Indian Hills.

"I was so proud of the way all of our athletes stepped up in so many different ways." Said Head Coach Doug Marshall, "the Men's team battled through a lot of adversity, we got a little banged up, but they battled through it to finish second."

Iowa Western did well in the distance events at the CMU Multi-purpose building with Yonas Mogos taking the runner-up spot in the Men's Mile, while Wimach Gilo took the same spot in the 5000 meters final and Sammy Hydro finished third in the 1000 meters.

Field events finished with several runner-up spots as Tyrell Johnson was just out of the top spot in the Long Jump, Calvin Knapp took second in the Shot Put and Nemoy Cockett was runner-up in the Weight Throw.

Marshall added, "Big thank you to my coaching staff they had our athletes prepared and our amazing training room staff who continue to work miracles for our athletes and our program. We have more work to put in but we are excited to compete at nationals in two weeks."

Next up for the team are the NJCAA Indoor National Championships in Pittsburg, Kansas on March 5th and 6th.
