Reiver Men Take Third, Women Second at Washburn JUCO Challenge

Iowa Western Men's Track qualified two more student-athletes for NJCAA Indoor Nationals at their final regular-season meet of the season in Topeka at the Washburn JUCO Challenge.

LeeAaron Berks won the men's 800 meters with a time of 1:56.21, while teammates Sammy Hydro (1:56.73) and Ethan Brenneman (1:57.72) finished 2nd and 4th in the event to qualify for the National meet.

Michael Buchanan took the top spot in the long jump with a distance of 7.37 meters to earn himself a spot at Nationals.  Teammates Tyrell Johnson and Nicholaus Smith finished 2nd and 5th in the event.

Yonas Mogos won the mile as he continued his stellar first year.

"We were happy to add some names to the national list as well as adding some open events for some athletes already qualified." said Head Coach Doug Marshall, "This week of practice will be crucial moving forward into Regionals and Nationals, and we have some improvements to make to be ready for some great competition over the next few weeks."

Overall, the men finished third at the event, while the women took second in the team standings.  The men have qualified 16 student-athletes for Nationals in March.

The Reivers will race this Saturday at the ICCAC Region XI Indoor Championship.  The event will take place in Warrensburg, Missouri at the CMU Multipurpose Building on the campus of Central Missouri University.
