Iowa Western Announces New Dance Team and Head Coach

COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA -

Iowa Western Community College announced the hiring of Michaela Patterson as its new Reiver Dance Team head coach following board approval of the program in March. The Reiver Dance Team will consist of up to 25 student athletes that will perform at Iowa Western events and in statewide and regional competitions. The dance team will kick off competition in Fall 2021.

"We are committed to providing additional opportunities for our incoming students that want to excel at the collegiate level," said Iowa Western President Dr. Dan Kinney. "Dance Team provides yet another outlet for our growing student body."

Patterson brings a wealth of experience to the new Reiver Dance Team. A native of Council Bluffs, Patterson is a veteran dance instructor who has earned countless choreography awards for her studio work with Miss Tammy's School of Dance in Neola, Iowa and Miss Tammy's Absolute Dance competitive dance team. She has served since 2014 as the Head Dance Team and Choreographer at Thomas Jefferson High School, where she built an award-winning program in her short time there.

"This is an opportunity I could not pass up," Patterson said. "There is a very talented competitive dance community in Council Bluffs, Omaha and Southwest Iowa that I hope to draw from to create a first class dance team at Iowa Western."
