Iowa Western takes two on day one at Jefferson College Invitational

HILLSBORO, Mo. -- Iowa Western won two matches in the Jefferson Classic Friday, beating John A. Logan College and Jefferson College in four sets each.

Against John A. Logan, Reka Kotorman set the pace for the offense producing 33 assists. The freshman also locked in 7 kills and 9 digs. Genesis Sheridan also stepped up and led the offense with 12 kills on a .526 clip. 

Defensively, the Reivers set up a wall along the net. Isabela Sarti and Dari de Caravalho produced 11 of the 14 total team blocks. On the back court libero Bryn Stansberry (15), Lauren Walenz (11) and Leah Palensky (10) refused to let any ball hit the floor. 

Right after, the Reivers faced the host of the tournament, Jeffereson College. But this time, Kelsey Havel took charge of the offense with 18 kills, 10 digs and 4 total blocks. Kotorman produced another double-double with 41 assists and 10 digs. 

Defensively, the Reivers turned it up a notch producing 95 total digs. Stansberry and Palensky shouldered the workload with 24 and 26 digs, respectively. 

"We are out some of our starters, so I was happy with the way we competed," coach Alicia Williams said. "We play Vincennes and West plains tomorrow at 10 a.m. and noon."
