Women Compete at the National Preview

The Reiver Women's Golf team found themselves in a familiar situation at the National Preview in Garden City, KS. With a respiratory virus circulating through the team, they were once again short handed for this tournament. The National Preview is a tournament set-up for teams to be able to compete and learn the course that will be hosting the National Championship in May.

The Ladies played well the first day of competition and matched their team scoring average for the fall Season (311). The Reivers were led by Sophomore Madi Schlaepfer with a 75, followed by Freshman Baylie Pyke with a 77, Wen-Yi Hung fired a 79. Marley Richter provided her best round of the season with an 80 by hitting all her fairways.

Day two brought tougher conditions. As the women's started play with the 'feel like' temperature at 36 degrees and 15 MPH wind. "These were some tough conditions, for sure," said Head Coach Matt Robinson. "And put on top of that a few players were sick. I'm proud of how they still competed."

Once again, the team was led with Schlaepfer who ended the tournament tied in 13th place over-all. "We approached this tournament more from the standpoint of learning the course. Buffalo Dunes is a great golf course, and they still were working on it with some temporary greens and bunkers under construction. This will help us come May and competing at the National Championship." Said Robinson

The Reivers will be back in action Oct. 17th and 18th at Mozingo Lake Golf Course hosted by Northwest Missouri state.
