Reiver Women's Bowling placed 15th out of 20 varsity teams over the November 3rd and 4th weekend at the Jayhawk Collegiate Challenge in Topeka, KS. The team knocked down 4845 pins during the six traditional team games on Saturday, which eclipsed their previous season high by 334 pins. They also broke 800 for the first time on Saturday, firing an 881 team game during game four and an 879 mark during game six.
"I'm really proud of them," said Coach Douglas Kuberski. "Development is rarely linear. On Saturday, the team elevated their game and took two giants steps forward. While we took a small step back on Sunday during baker matches, this is a natural part of the process. The key is to always learn from each day and bring that to your next practice session and your next competition. For us, improving our spare shooting is paramount. We can strike with a lot of the top teams out there, but in order to take the next step, we must be more consistent with our spares."
"We have the potential to go far," Coach Chad Goodwin said. "Right now, we have to focus on repeating shots and improving our ability to turn 160 into 180. Spare shooting is a big part of that. They are starting to embrace the challenging lane conditions we face and are learning how to battle. I'm looking forward to two solid weeks of practice to work on these items and am confident they can take the next step."
Treasure Childs knocked down 1047 pins over six games to tie for 21st place, giving the Reivers their first top-25 individual performance in school history. Samantha Morris posted 1019 for the six games in her season debut to finish in a tie for 31st, and Erica Richards rolled a 560 three-game set. The team posted a high baker game of 198 on Sunday.
