Reiver Women Finish 5th in Debut at Sandhills Collegiate Classic

Reiver Bowling set sail on its maiden voyage over the October 13-14 weekend at the Sandhills Collegiate Classic in Lincoln, Nebraska, with the women's team placing 5th out of 6 varsity teams.

"I'm proud of the way they battled," said Head Coach Douglas Kuberski. "Without question, it was a challenging weekend on a demanding condition and the tournament exposed many areas where improvement is needed. However, there are several positives to take away too. Everyone is trusting in the process with an understanding that changes don't take place overnight. We'll continue to grow each time out. My confidence in this group hasn't wavered. In fact, given the way we battled together, it's as strong as ever. We have the talent to compete."

"Both teams saw the values of keeping the ball in play and making spares on the demanding conditions we face," Assistant Coach Chad Goodwin added. "From day one of the semester, we didn't want to take any shortcuts, and Coach Kuberski and I knew that many of the changes we began to implement would take dedication and patience before taking effect. As long as we stay focused on doing things the right way and maintain our long term vision, we'll continue to get better."

Treasure Childs and Elsa Veria-Means led the way in traditional games for the Women's squad on Saturday, while the team posted a baker high game of 202 on Sunday.

Reiver Women's Bowling next competes on October 20th at the Mid-States Championship in Wichita, KS, which will mark the first Tier 1 event in program history. Fans can keep up with the Iowa Western Bowling Program by following the teams on Twitter (@ReiverBowling) and by liking the Iowa Western Reiver Bowling page on Facebook.
