Season-High Assists Mark Helps Reivers Defeat Lopes

Lamar, CO – A season-high number of assists (28) helped the Reiver women's basketball team sail to victory over the Lamar Community College Lopes on Tuesday, January 7, 2020. The win puts the Reivers at 10-8 on the season and 3-0 to start 2020.

The Reivers started the game clicking offensively, scoring 23 first-quarter points. They would go on to score 26 in the third and 23 in the fourth. The offensive effort and selflessness by the Reivers were evident in their season-high 28 assists. Guard Nyah Morris-Nelson was pivotal in creating for her teammates, she led all scorers with 18 points and also paced the team with 6 assists.

Freshman point guard Briana Baker-Bruce had two career-highs; dishing out 5 assists and setting the tone defensively with 4 steals, finishing with 7 points and 5 rebounds.

The Reivers also saw balanced scoring in the win, with 4 players in double figures. Freshman Solape Amusan scored 16, shooting 8-13 from the field. Sommer Blakemore added 12 points and grabbed 8 boards.  Hayley Berfield also scored 11.

Defensively the Reivers forced the Lopes into 22 turnovers and held them to shooting just 25% from the three-point line.

The Reivers hope to use the momentum from their 3-0 start in 2020 when they open up conference play this Saturday, January 11. The Reivers will travel to Norfolk, Nebraska, where they will face Northeast Community College at 5:00 p.m.
