Reivers Split with Southeastern

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa - Iowa Western Softball used a 7th-inning rally to come from behind to defeat Southeastern Community College in game two of the Saturday doubleheader to avoid the weekend sweep.

After falling in game one 2-0 that saw the Blackhawks one-hit the Reivers, IWCC found their bats in game two.  Southeastern (18-14 | 4-3) got out to an early 3-0 lead but Iowa Western responded in the bottom of the 4th, plating a pair of runs on an RBI double from Cydnee Schneider.  IWCC then loaded the bases with two outs and a wild pitch plated Jolee Huffaker from third.

The Blackhawks added another run in the top of the 5th but again, the Reivers (28-16 | 8-2) answered, this time with an RBI triple from Allie Cromer.  Schneider plated Cromer with a sacrifice fly to center field to tie things up at 4 a piece.

Southeastern took a one-run lead in the top of the 6th after three straight singles then held IWCC scoreless in the bottom half of the inning.  Kendra Mitchell relieved Maddison Depencier and set the Blackhawks down 1-2-3 on a trio of flyouts in the top of the 7th to keep the SECC lead to just one.

Mattea Martin led off the final frame with a loud double and Cromer followed with a triple to tie the game at 5.  That led to a pair of intentional walks to Schneider and Alex Stoner to load the bases with no outs. Alex Bailey hit a high fly ball to center field but the wind blowing in pushed it close enough to the infield to keep Cromer at third base with no tag.  That brought up sophomore Camryn Sterling and with a 2-1 count, Sterling laid down a bunt that died right in front of the pitcher to score Cromer for the game-winning run.

Iowa Western is still in control of the ICCAC but are just two games up on SECC and three games up on Indian Hills.

The Reivers are back in action on Wednesday in Creston, IA for a pair of games with Southwestern CC.
