Council Bluffs, IA -- The Reiver softball team tied for first place in the ICCAC coaches' pre-season poll this week. Iowa Western is coming back off of a 36-14 campaign in 2017, in which they broke into the Top 20 rankings nationally and saw their season come to an end in the Region XI Championship. Eight players return from last spring's squad; including, Region XI Co-Pitcher of the Year Brieanna Brock, and All-Region award winners: Zoe Hicks (UT), Keelee Huff (C), Naomi Terrazas (OF), and Celia Valencia (OF).
Iowa Western opens the season with a nine day road trip through Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas starting on February 17th. During the eight double headers in nine days stretch, the Reivers will have a four-game set against #8 NEO A&M and a three-game set against #11 Tyler Junior College. "We're excited to be able to compete against some of the best teams in the country to start out the year," said Head Coach Ben Greer, "it'll be great to see where we are at early in the spring and figure out ways to continually get better throughout the course of the season. I think we have a resilient group of players who all believe in each other and I think that will ultimately help us get where we're trying to go."
The Reivers are set to open the year at State Fair CC on February 17th. First pitch is slated for 2pm.
