Men Run Well at Region XI Championships

BETTENDORF, IA

The Reivers traveled back to Crow Creek Park in Bettendorf, IA to race in the Region XI cross country Championships. It was a stark difference from the last time the Reivers raced in Bettendorf with the Reivers seeing a 40 degree change in temperature from what they saw August 26th. That made for much better racing conditions and it showed in the results.

The men were led once again by Freshman Gavin Klein who ran a personal best and earned all-region honorable mention finishing 16th. "He got out really fast and it hurt him a bit early," Coach Bierbaum said. Although starting too fast Klein regrouped and put together a strong second half of his race to help him pass Hawkeye sophomore David Thompson.

Freshman Aldo Zavala battled a foot injury to be the second Reiver to cross the line finishing 28th. "Aldo ran a tough race pushing through a foot injury I was proud of the way he competed and never complained," said Head Coach Doug Marshall. Zavala really went after it and found himself in a great position through 4 miles. In his last mile, his average mile split slowed a bit showing the effects of training and dealing with an injury.

Following Klein and Zavala were sophomore Daniel Reimer and Freshman Steven Hinze finishing 44th and 58th. Next up is a trip to Garden City Kansas on November 10th for the NJCAA National Championships.
