Monday Recap and Review (10/11-10/17)
This past week the Iowa Western Men's Soccer team hosted two games in the Reiver Sports Complex. On Thursday October 7th the Reivers won 14-0 agaisnt Scott CC. We had 11 different goal scorers this game lead by Junior Casillas who had two goals and two assist this game, followed by Wawa Palga who also had two, and Sohei Matsumori who opened his college goal scoring account by getting two. Giorgio Probo, Edoardo Deglinnocenti, Maruki Kawahara, Claudel Ngongang, Jiwoo Lee, Moise Bombito, Carlos Santamaria, Ibrahim Conde each had a 1 goal this game. Enzo Cozzi and Gonzalo Cuevas each had two assist as well. Haakon Utesch got his first start and game of his college career and posted a shutout without having to do much in the game.
On Saturday October 9th. Marshalltown Tigers came into to town to faceoff the Reivers to make it a top 25 matchup. We only had one goal scored and it came from Ibrahim Conde with an assist from Maruki Kawahara in the 14th minute of the game. It was a tight game and defensive battle between the two programs with only a total of 6 shots happening in the game. Yuta Ishizuka had a little to do but when he was called upon he did a great job managing the backline.
This week the Reivers are hosting the Indian Hills Warrios as they come into town on Wednesday October 13th for a kickoff at 3pm in the Reiver Sports Complex. In the first matchup these two teams had the Reivers won the game 2-0 in a tough contest. The Reivers will be looking to use the home field advantage to hopefully have a better team performance from the team. On Saturday the men's team travel to Spencer, Iowa to face off against the #3 ranked Iowa Lakes Lakers in a top 3 matchup. It will be a great contest that will for sure be an exciting match to watch.
