Reivers Score Late Winner to Finish Regular Season Undefeated

The Iowa Western men's soccer team travelled to Burlington, Iowa yesterday to take on the Southeastern Community College Blackhawks in their regular season and conference finale. Having already secured the outright regular season ICCAC championship, the Reivers could have relaxed, but they wanted to finish the regular season undefeated. Southeastern, coming off a huge win earlier in the week, had other plans and gave the Reivers a battle for 90 minutes. Though the Reivers were depleted due to injuries, players continued to step up and play big minutes.

The Reivers failed to capitalize on several clear chances in the opening minutes and despite dominating possession throughout the game, struggled to create many quality chances after that. Southeastern weathered the storm by holding many players back to defend and trying to look for chances to strike on the counter attack and created some dangerous chances in the second half, but Iowa Western keeper Jassem Koleilat was up to the task and looked relatively calm in making three fantastic saves. Fitzroy Cummings smashed in the late winner in the 90th minute off of a cross from Nicolas Torres that Eduardo Barros had deflected off of the post to secure the 1-0 victory for the Reivers.

The Reivers finished the regular season 15-0 and 9-0 in ICCAC play. The Reivers have scored 76 goals and conceded just 3, while earning 12 shutouts total and 8 shutouts in ICCAC play. The Reivers still hold the #2 NJCAA national ranking and are the first team in the ICCAC to go undefeated in the regular season since the Reivers did it back in 2015.

The Reivers will now rest and prepare for their next match in the ICCAC conference semifinals that will be hosted at the Reiver Sports Complex on October 27th.
