Reivers Trust the Process to Top Warriors

On Wednesday evening at the Reiver Soccer Complex, the Iowa Western men's soccer team took on the visiting Indian Hills Warriors. The Warriors came in ranked 19th in the NJCAA polls. The Reivers got off to a great start and capitalized on their possession to score off of a corner kick in the 19th minute. Fitzroy Cummings headed home the opening goal off the corner kick from Damia Viader. Fernando Zaragoza deflected in another goal in the 27th minute off of another great cross from Damia Viader. The Reivers spent the majority of the first half moving the ball around looking for openings to dissect the Indian Hills defense. The teams entered halftime with the Reivers leading 2-0, but a weather delay just before the start of the second half resulted in almost two hours of waiting for both teams. Indian Hills came out in the second half with some energy to try to change the game, but the Reivers were calm and professional in the way that they handled the match and the Warriors struggled to keep the ball or create any chances. Nicolas Torres finished the scoring for the Reivers in the 86th minute off of a through ball from Samuel Villalta to make it 3-0 in favor of the Reivers.

The Reivers allowed only 2 shots, with 1 on target that Jassem Koleilat saved easily.

Head Coach Mike Brown had this to say about the performance, "it was a very mature and professional performance from the boys. It was a complete team effort. On to the next one. We have a big one this Saturday against a very talented Marshalltown team."

Iowa Western will face Marshalltown at home at the Reiver Sports Complex this Saturday at 1pm.
