Reivers Dominate in Road Win at Hawkeye

The Iowa Western men's soccer team traveled to Waterloo, Iowa on Saturday to take on the Hawkeye Community College RedTails and left victorious with a 2-0 win. The Reivers managed to get 6 out of their 13 shots on target, while the RedTails managed to take only 1 shot that Jassem Koleilat ended up saving. In a cold and rainy evening that saw 34 total fouls, 2 yellow cards (HCC), and 1 red card (HCC), the Reivers kept possession of the ball almost the entire game. The Hawkeye defense did their best to disrupt the flow of the game for the Reivers through physical tackles and offsides traps, but the Reivers broke through off of an intelligent restart by Nicolas Torres and Damia Viader immediately following a Hawkeye foul on the edge of the box. Before the Hawkeye defense was set, Nicolas Torres found a pass to Damia Viader, who was clever to slip the ball into goal from a difficult angle in the 34th minute. Eduardo Barros rose up to power in a header off of a cross from Mario Magana in the 55th minute and neither team would score after that.

Head coach Mike Brown had this to say after the match, "I thought it was a very gritty performance from the boys in the cold weather on the road after playing a tough Iowa Lakes team less than 48 hours before. I'm very proud of the boys!"

The Reivers are now 12-0 overall and 6-0 in ICCAC play. Jassem Koleilat and the Reiver defense recorded their 9th shutout of the season. Next, the Reivers will face Indian Hills this Wednesday at the Reiver Sports Complex at 3pm.
