Reivers Break Through Against NIACC

Goals were hard to come by for the Iowa Western men's soccer team when they played North Iowa Area Community College at home at the Reiver Soccer Complex on Thursday. The Reivers recorded 26 shots, including 13 shots on target, two shots that hit the post, and 15 corner kicks. The NIACC defenders threw their bodies in front of the goal to block shots on multiple occasions. Despite Iowa Western moving the ball around sharply, maintaining most of the possession, and transitioning extremely well, the Reivers were unable to break the deadlock until after halftime in the 54th minute with a beautiful team goal that was finished off by Eduardo Barros. A string of nice passes led to a low cross from Roberto Hernandez that Barros tapped in from close range. Barros would later score in the 80th minute off of a clever pass from Nicolas Torres from a freekick and the match finished 2-0. Eduardo Barros was unlucky not to have tapped in again for the hatrick in the closing minutes, but he hit the post. Barros had this to say about the match, "I am really proud of my performance, but the most important thing is that we got one more win for our team and we are getting better every game. We are continuing to move forward toward our goal."

Iowa Western is now 9-0 and 3-0 in ICCAC play. Goalkeeper, Jassem Koleilat and the Iowa Western defense recorded their 7th shutout of the season. The Reivers will travel to face Scott Community College on Saturday.
