Reivers Improve to 2-0 in Conference Play with 11-0 Win

The Iowa Western men's soccer team had another big day at home against Northeast Community College, winning 11-0. Mario Magana got the Reivers off to a hot start by scoring 35 seconds into the match. The Reivers struggled to find the final product again the rest of the half, as the NCC Hawks defended at times with all 11 players in their defensive third of the field and the teams entered halftime with a scoreline of 1-0 in favor of Iowa Western. The Reivers found their goal scoring form though, and they went on to score five goals within the first 16 minutes of the second half and never looked back. Jordan Montoya capped off a great scoring day for the Reivers with a beautiful assist in the 61st minute and four goals in the final seven minutes of the match. "Every team goes through lapses like that during a season, but what's important was our reaction in the second half. We played more like ourselves and the final score showed that. I hope I can continue producing for the team and give another solid punch for us moving forward," Montoya said.

Roberto Hernandez (1), Quinton Kipara (2), Nicolas Torres (2), and Eduardo Barros (1) scored the other goals for the Reivers.

Damia Viader (2), Mario Magana (2), Sohya Yamamoto (1), Kyle Blair (1), Nathan Thomas (2) and Diego Ribeiro (1) had the assists for the Reivers.

The Reivers look forward to Thursday evening when they will play NIACC in the rescheduled game from this past weekend that was postponed due to weather. The Reivers are now 2-0 in the conference and 8-0 on the season with a plus 49 goal differential and an impressive 0.25 Goals Against Average per game.
