Reivers drop first spring game to Blue Jays

The Iowa Western men's soccer team dropped their first spring game to the Blue Jays of Creighton. The deadlock was broken after 17 minutes when an indirect free kick came back off of the cross bar to be finished off at close range. The second goal the Reivers conceded was from the penalty spot late in the half, and a third came soon after from the run of play. The Reivers came back in the second half with more purpose. Freshman forward Mateo Mendez Schroeder got a goal back early in the half after freshman defender Sacha Fagot was able to find space down the right flank. Fagot's initial cross was blocked, but he was allowed a second chance and found Mendez in a pocket of space 10 yards out. Mendez took his chance on one touch and found the far corner. The momentum did not last long for the Reivers and as the half wore on the chances became more prevelant for the Blue Jays. A fourth goal was put in off of an Iowa Western defender to make it 4-1 and the final goal came in similar fashion as the third when the Blue Jays were able to slot a ball between two defenders to create a one on one situation with the keeper.

The Reiver men's soccer team will next take on the Mavericks of UNO on Friday March, 8th at the Omaha Sports Complex.
