Reiver men's soccer lose in semi-final to end season

Iowa Western men's soccer end their season on the road vs the Tigers of Marshalltown Community College in an ICCAC semi-final matchup between the first seeded Tigers and fifth seeded Reivers. The Reivers stayed with a gameplan of taking away space in their own half and counter attack, but the Tigers were up for the challenge. The first 40 minutes went by without any real attacking threats from either side. The Tigers were able to win a free kick on the wing just outside the Reivers box in the 41st minute. The free kick was struck low and hard into the Reivers goalmouth and was poked home from close range to make it 1-0 going into the half. The Reivers failed to register a shot in the half, and Reiver keeper Daniel Bermingham register two saves.

The second half picked up for the Reivers as they started to get a foothold in the attacking half on their counter attacking moments. Tanner Miller had a shot well saved by the Tigers keeper, and Fernando Zaragoza had a shot go off the crossbar before the Tigers were able to seal with win with their second goal in the 78th minute. A generous no call from the referee allowed the Tigers to continue a counter attack that made its way into the Reivers box. The Reiver defense could not sort itself out quickly enough, which left the Tigers forward the chance to finish from close range. The Reivers continued to work and push the tempo, but were unable to find the breakthrough they needed.

The Reivers end their season with a record of 9-6-1. The ICCAC championship game will be hosted by the Tigers as they take on the Lakers of Iowa Lakes Community College on Saturday, October 27th at 2:00 PM.
