Paye joins Reiver Soccer as new assistant coach

McAmos "Mikey" Paye enters his first season with the Reivers. Paye is the Room and Board Assistant Coach. Coach Paye's duties are recruitment, player and team development, varsity reserve team training, academic performance, camps, and on campus activities and development.

Coach Paye comes to Iowa Western with a championship mentality. As a student-athlete for Tyler Junior College, Paye won the 2012 National Championship but coincidentally lost in penalty kicks to Iowa Western in the 2013 National Championship game, preventing him from back-to-back championships. After his outstanding performance with TJC, Paye committed to play at Creighton University. During his two seasons at Creighton, Paye, in the holding midfield role, played in 43 games and in two consecutive NCAA National Tournament quarter-finals in 2014 and 2015.

Upon completion of his college soccer career and earning a bachelor's degree in Communications, Paye rejoined Tyler Junior College but this time as an assistant coach with the men's soccer coaching staff. In his short stint as an assistant coach with TJC, Paye contributed to another TJC national championship. Shortly after the national championship, Paye would make his final attempt to play professionally but ultimately decided to begin his coaching career.

As the opportunity to play professionally closed, the coaching doors opened for Paye. In the early months of 2017, he decided to return to Omaha. Shortly after his arrival in Omaha, Paye was asked to become the Academy Director and Assistant Technical Director of Council Bluffs Soccer Club. Paye currently oversees and directs the individual player development of 200 youth soccer players in the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro area. He will continue his role with CBSC while he is at Iowa Western.

Head Coach, Jordan Carver, is thrilled to have Coach Paye on staff. "Mikey is the perfect fit for our program. He is passionate, motivated, and knows the JUCO game," exclaimed Coach Carver. "He can relate immediately with our student-athlete and show our players the pathway to their goals of winning a national championship and moving onto the NCAA D1 level."

Coach Paye's official start date was February 27th. You can contact Coach Paye on his Iowa Western email, mpaye@iwcc.edu
