Lincoln, Neb. – Reiver Men's Golf finished first and second respectively at the 2024 Howl at the Hill Spring Shootout! A pair of warm windy days welcomed the competitors on Sunday and Monday this week. Iowa Western brought two teams and three individuals to the event; a total of 13 Reivers saw action. The IWCC "White" squad was led by freshman Ryan Lingelbach's (72-74-146), which was good enough to land him runner-up medalist on the individual side of the competition. Other scoring for IWCC "White" came from Shoma Taguchi (77-72-149) which placed him tied for third but wound up fourth place medalist as he lost a scorecard playoff. Teammate Magnus Nielsen found himself as the tenth-place medalist with his (75-79-154). Other scores for the "White" team were Cooper Hanson (75-85-160), and Hiroto Tojo (86-78-164). Reiver "Blue" was led by sophomore Henry Kosmicki's solid play (73-72-145), which clipped Lingelbach by one shot to take the individual title. This marked the fourth straight tournament that a Reiver has brought home the individual championship. The other "Blue" team scoring were Matt Dennis (74-75-149) which put him in a tie for third individually and he won the scorecard playoff over Taguchi to earn the third-place medal; Trystan Du Plessis was next with (76-77-153) earning him eighth place medalist honors; Calen Bishop (76-80-156) and Ethan Smith (79-85-164). The "Blue" team totals for the event were (299-304-603) which put them one shot back of the team title but good enough for second place overall.

IWCC had three individuals competing in the event as well. Nick Slobbe finished (77-84-161), Dylan Cairns finished (76-85-161), and Bowdie Fox finished (81-83-164) to round out all scoring for Reiver competitors. Coach Norman had this to say afterward, "I was proud of the fight our guys showed over the last couple of days. Hillcrest is a great test of golf with their firm fast greens and then you throw in the wind we had today, it made for a stern test out there. We have thirteen players that have all shown the ability to play great golf, so it was nice to get them out and compete."

The Reivers wrapped up their Spring regular season and will now turn their attention to the District Championship. Districts are scheduled to begin April 29th and 30th at Tiffany Greens Golf Club in Kansas City, MO.
