Reivers Streak Continues

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa - The Iowa Western men's basketball team pushed their win streak to 5 straight with a 76-63 win over the Southwestern CC Spartans. The Reivers got off to a very slow start as they trailed 10-3 in the early going. Ahmad Jahed would be the offensive spark to get the scoring started for Iowa Western as he connected on back-to-back field goals. The Reivers would take advantage of their small lineup and began pressing the Spartans which caused some turnovers and led to easy baskets for Iowa Western. Forward Kevin Winscot gave big minutes at the end of the first half. Winscot had a big dunk that got the Reiver crowd into the game and Winscot also converted a layup as time expired in the first half to extend the Iowa Western lead to 7 points with a score of 39-32.

In the second half, the Reivers were able to maintain their lead and were never seriously threatened by the Spartans. The Iowa Western defense and rebounding was the key factor in the decisive victory. Ahmad Jahed made several key baskets in the second half and Jahed led the Reivers in scoring with 17 points. Jadon Cool continued his solid play as he chipped in 14 points. Donavan Seamster scored 13, Devon Junghans scored 12, and Emion Galloway also reached double figures with 10 points.

Iowa Western is now 15-10 overall on the season, and 8-5 in the ICCAC. Next, the Reivers will travel to Cedar Rapids, IA for a matchup with top 20 ranked Kirkwood CC on Saturday at 3:00 pm.
