Iowa Western Defeats Western Iowa Tech

SIOUX CITY, Iowa - The Iowa Western Men's basketball team earned their first victory of the new year with a 108-88 road victory at Western Iowa Tech. The Reivers got off to a solid start as they grabbed a double-digit lead midway through the half. The Comets of Western Iowa Tech forced a few turnovers and took advantage of some sloppy offensive play from the Reivers to claw back into the game. The Reivers took a 46-40 lead into the halftime break.

In the second half, the two teams traded big runs. Near the 12:00 minute mark or the second half the Reivers caught fire from 3 and converted in transition to push the lead up to 20 points. Again, the Comets wouldn't give up and forced the tempo with their trapping defense which allowed them to cut the deficit to 10 points with 7 minutes to play. Fortunately, Iowa Western made a run back at the Comets and sealed the game away in the final few minutes with some transition baskets and free throws.

The Reivers are now 10-7 overall on the season and 4-2 in the ICCAC. Iowa Western will have a bye this Wednesday and then hit the road again to play Southwestern CC in Creston, IA on Saturday, January 13th.
