Council Bluffs, IA -- The Iowa Western men's basketball team gave up too many second change opportunities, on a night where the Reivers could only score 56 points themselves, to Marshalltown en route to a 71-56 loss to the Tigers Saturday evening (2/16/19).

The Reivers were outscored 14-4 on second chance field goals, giving up 12 offensive rebounds to Marshalltown while themselves only corralling 6 of their missed field goal chances.  That 14-4 margin was the largest discrepancy in a game that otherwise matched up very similar. Both had similar turnovers, defended their opponents from the three point line successfully (IW 2/13, M'Town 2/11), and (excluding the second chance putbacks) shot a similar field goal percentage from the floor (IW 44%, M'Town 43%).

Only two Reivers scored in double figures, Travon Broadway scored 18 points, while Christain Bentley added 12 points. Kelton Edwards scored a game high 26 points for the Tigers who led at intermission by 8 points and held the Reivers at arms-length the final 20 minutes of play. At that half-time break; all 13 members of the Iowa Western men's basketball team that were suited up to play were honored as Academic All-Region honorees for maintaining a 3.0 GPA or higher throughout this past fall.

Iowa Western, now 21-7, returns to Reiver Arena for the final home game of the 2018-19 regular season slate this Tuesday evening (2/19/19). "Sophomore Night" will pit Iowa Western against North Central Missouri. That contest between the Reivers and Pirates is slated for 6:00pm.
