Reivers run right past Hawks

Council Bluffs, IA -- The Iowa Western men's basketball team opened up their home portion of conference play with a complete 40 minute effort en route to a dominant 102-67 victory Saturday evening (1/19/19) at Reiver Arena.

The 102 points marked the second time in as many games the Reivers had eclipsed the century mark, coming off a 101-57 road victory over Quakerdale Prep Academy earlier in the week. It also marked the 6th time this season Iowa Western had passed 100 points in a contest.

The Reivers once again showed an unselfish attack, as 12 members of the team scored in the contest.  Iowa Western also had 19 assists on it's 42 field goals, including an 11 assist evening for Christian Bentley who triggered a Reiver fast break that Northeast had difficulties slowing down all evening long, indeed the Reivers outscored the Hawks 16-2 in transition baskets on the evening. By the halftime buzzer Iowa Western was up 50-33, and from there the Reivers were never threatened, ballooning the lead out to as much as 41 points with 5:02 left in the contest.

Amazingly only three Reivers scored in double figures, showing the overall balance of attack in a game where they would ultimately accumulate 102 points. Caleb Huffman led all scorers with 27 points, while Willard Anderson had his best game as a Reiver with a 21 point effort, including shooting 5/7 from behind the 3pt arch.  Travon Broadway rounded out the double digit scorers with 11 points as well.  Ben Moxness paced the traveling Hawks with 20 points.

With the win, the Reivers move to 17-3 on the season, and more importantly draw even at 1-1 in ICCAC Region XI Conference play.  Next up for Iowa Western is a trip to Marshalltown Wednesday night (1/23/19); that conference road game between the Reivers and Tigers is slated for a 7:00pm tip.
