Reivers "return the favor" to Roadrunners

Council Bluffs, IA -- 102 points, that is how many points State Fair scored in their home contest on January 20th against Iowa Western. Four weeks later the Reivers were ready and waiting, as Iowa Western soundly defeating the visiting Roadrunners from Sedalia, MO to avenge their previous 102-91 loss with an dominant 94-70 victory at Reiver Arena.

The Reivers defensive effort was apparent from the opening tip; and would ultimately hold the Roadrunners to their lowest scoring output of the season (70 points). Iowa Western owned the backboards; outrebounding State Fair 41 to 19. Offensively the Reivers compiled 17 assists to their 37 field goals; sharing the basketball in a game that would see 11 of their 13 man roster score. The Reivers would end the evening shooting 55% from the floor and 11/27 from the three point line in a game that would see their lead balloon to as high as 31 points with 4:45 left in the second half.

As mentioned, eleven Reivers scored in the contest for Iowa Western, with five scoring in double figures. For the second straight game Jevon Smith led Iowa Western with 20 points shooting a perfect 8/8 from the floor including 2/2 from the three point line, Emmanuel Ugboh scored 13, Shadeed Shabazz 12, Patrick Dembley 11, and Decardo Day rounded off the double digit scorers with 10 points. Along with his 11 points, point guard Patrick Dembley, along with Decardo Day; triggered the Reiver fast break and led Iowa Western with 6 assists in the contest. Emmanuel Ugboh for the second time in as many games showed an all around effort. Fresh off a 12 point, 8 rebound, 6 block game against Central Tuesday night, the 6'11 post from Nigeria finished the contest against State Fair with 13 points, a team high 15 rebounds, and 3 blocked shots.

Caleb Coleman and Tyreek Grayson led the Roadrunners, who now drop to 17-7; with 14 points apiece.

The Reivers move to 22-5 on the year with the win over State Fair.  Up next for the Reivers is their final non-conference game of the season at home against Briar Cliff JV. Tip time for the Reivers and Chargers is slated for 7:00pm Tuesday (2/13/18) evening at Reiver Arena.
