Unselfish play proves to be catalyst to rout

Council Bluffs, IA -- The Iowa Western men's basketball team Tuesday evening combined for 26 assists on 43 field goals made from the floor (60% assist/fgm ratio) enroute to a 109-76 victory over Central (NE).  The unselfish play was also displayed by the fact that the Reivers (5-1) had seven members of the roster score in double figures.

Patrick Dembley (20), Shadeed Shabazz (13), Shaun Doss (13), Decardo Day (12), Jevon Smith (11), Tyriek Railey (10), and Rhyss Lewis (10) all scored in double figures.  Other performances of note was Day's 6 assists to 0 turnovers, Dembley's 7 assists to 2 turnovers, and Shabazz's 4 assists to 1 turnover; as well as the inside presence of freshman Emmanuel Ugboh, who scored 8 points grabbed a game high 12 rebounds (8 offensive rebounds) and blocked 2 shots.

Iowa Western was off at the opening gun, racing out to a 22 to 5 lead in the games opening moments.  The visiting Raiders from Columbus, NE; who had beaten NJCAA D1 member Cloud County (KS) on Cloud's home floor just a week earlier, would get no closer then 12 points the rest of the way early in the second half.

Central was led by Malik Mooving's game high 23 points.  The Reivers focused defense held the Raiders to 42% shooting from the floor and helped create 18 turnovers in the contest.

The game Tuesday evening at Kanesville Arena ended the #20 ranked Reivers three game homestand of the early season, and are now back on the road for the next two contests. Iowa Western travels to North Iowa Area (NIACC) this Saturday evening (11/18), and Kansas City-Kansas next Tuesday (11/21).
