Iowa added to its backfield depth this weekend as junior college running back Mekhi Sargent reportedly enrolled with the Hawkeyes.

Sargent, who played at Iowa Western Community College last season, is joining the Hawkeyes ahead of the 2018 campaign, according to Rivals' Blair Sanderson.

Sargent (5-foot-8, 190 pounds), originally from Key West, Fla., was a Junior College All-American last season after rushing for 1,449 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also had interest from Louisville and New Mexico State, according to 247Sports.

The addition of Sargent will help Iowa's running back depth after the Hawkeyes lost Akrum Wadley and James Butler from the 2017 roster. Toren Young and Ivory Kelly-Martin are expected to be at the top of Iowa's depth chart heading into training camp, but Sargent could earn some carries.
