Reivers Open Conference Play With Win

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa - Iowa Western Baseball opened up the 2023 ICCAC Conference schedule with a 7-1 victory over Iowa Lakes.  The Reivers (16-0) were backed by six solid innings from starting pitcher Nate Moquin.  The freshman right-hander from Gretna, NE gave up just three hits and struck out six Lakers to earn the victory.

Iowa Western would strike first offensively in the bottom of the 4th inning on a wild pitch by the Lakers' Bryan Mojica that scored AJ Singer.  Iowa Lakes (1-10) would answer in the top of the 5th, scratching across a run to tie the game.  The Reivers would get that run right back after a single by Brayden Smith.  A two-base error would put runners on 2nd and 3rd, then Tyler Stone would pull a groundball to second base to plate Smith.

Stone would break the game open in the 7th, launching a 3-run shot over the right field wall to make it a 5-1 game.

Iowa Western would add two more runs in the 8th while Ethan Louthan closed the books on the Lakers on just 13 pitches.

The Reiver pitching staff allowed one run on five hits while striking out 10 and walking just one batter in the game.  Stone finished his day going 2-5 with a homerun and four RBI.

Coach Cougill's squad is back in action on Friday from Doc Ross Field at the Dr. John and Jean Marshall Complex versus NIACC starting at 1:00 pm central.
