Iowa Western Baseball Sweeps Last Week of Regular Season

COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA – The Iowa Western Reiver Baseball team hosted Iowa Lakes for a midweek doubleheader.

The first game was quiet except for two innings from the Reiver offense. In the bottom of the 3rd Dylan Robertson started the scoring with a 2 RBI triple, 4 more hits led to four more runs. After a scoreless 4th the Reivers scored 4 more runs in the 5th to end the game due to run rule. Gavin Bergman toed the rubber for Iowa Western throwing all 5 innings only giving up 1 hit while striking out 4 Lakers.

Iowa Western continued the big inning scoring with 2 runs in the second, 3 in the fourth, and finishing out the game with 6 runs in the seventh to finish off the run rule. Auggie Rasmussen led the offense with two extra base hits and two RBI on the day. 7 pitchers combined to hold the Lakers to 5 hits and 1 run, Michael Finan and Luke Gainer had perfect frames.

IOWA FALLS, IA – On Saturday the Reivers traveled to take on the Ellsworth Community College Panthers in doubleheader, the first two games of a three-game series.

Dylan Robertson led the offense in the first game, going 3 for 4 with two homeruns a double, and 2 RBI. Brady Christensen and Andrew Schroeder each had an RBI as well. Noah Bush started on the mound for Iowa Western, throwing 1 inning only surrendering 1 hit while striking out 2. Cooper Crompton earned the win with his 2 innings of work, giving up 1 hit 2 walks while striking out 4. Brant Hogue threw 2 clean innings, and was relieved by Braden Pickett and Braden Berry each giving up one hit.

Game 2 on the day was higher scoring, finishing 11-4 in favor of the Reivers. Blake Stenger, Auggie Rasmussen, and Daniel Contreras hit homeruns. Terrick Thompson also had two hits on the day. 7 pitchers threw in the 9-inning game. Adam Stanton, Jared Lessman, and Tyler Chadwick had clean outings, Ernie Day got the win.

COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA - Due to a rain out on Sunday, game 3 of the series got moved to Monday at Doc Ross Field.

Iowa Western's last game of the regular season ended 11-0 after 9 innings. Auggie Rasmussen and Carter Wright led the offense with 3 hits each including a double from Wright. Clay Cutter and Brady Christensen had 2 RBI a piece, Wright led with 4 RBI. 9 pitchers combined in the 1 hitter, including clean frames from Michael Finan, Luke Gainer, Isaac Arnold, Sawyer Hansen and Logan Runde.

The Reivers begin post-season play with the Region XI tournament starting against the Southwestern Spartans on Thursday, May 12th, at 1pm.
