Iowa Western Baseball Splits on the Week

ESTHERVILLE, IA – Last Wednesday, the Iowa Western Baseball team traveled to play a double header against the Iowa Lakes Lakers.

Game 1 Logan Runde got the start for the Reivers, striking out two in as many innings while surrendering one earned run. Braden Pickett and Tyler Chadwick combined to throw the final five innings without letting up another run and striking out 2 and 3 batters respectively. Tye Wood led the way for the offense, going 3 for 3 on the day with an RBI and two runs scored. Carter Wright went 1 for 3 with a bases clearing double. The final was 11-1.

The second game of the day started a bit slower, with no runs scored until the top of the 3rd when Auggie Rasmussen did a job to score and run and another scored on an Andrew Schroeder single. The Lakers responded with 3 runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. Iowa Western went on to score 10 unanswered runs to win 12-3. 7 Reiver pitchers threw an inning a piece, Luke Gainer, Gavin Bergman, and Michael Finan each had perfect frames.

MASON CITY, IA – The weekend series for the Reivers got moved to Sunday and Monday, where they faced NIACC in a four game road series.

The first game of the weekend was dominated by Brant Hogue, he held the Trojans to just 3 hits in his 5 innings of work, while striking out 7 and walking 1. The offense on the other hand was led my Alec Patino and Trenton Harris each had two hits including a homerun. Iowa Western wins game 1 10-0 after 5 innings due to run rule.

Game 2 was much different, the NIACC offense scored early and often. The Reivers worked to keep the game close but ultimately fell 9-8. Ernie Day threw 1.2 innings perfect while striking out 2. Tye Wood, Carter Wright, and Clay Cutter each had 2 hits on the day.

Sunday the Reivers lost both, 9-2 and 7-4. Game 3 Tye Wood had 2 hits, and Alec Patino homered. The last game of the series Tye Wood, Terrick Thompson, and Nelson Phillips each had 2 hits apiece, Thompson's two hits were a double and a homerun, also collecting 3 RBI. Gavin Bergman, Cal Higgins, Grant Hubka, and Noah Bush each had scoreless outings.

Iowa Western is back in action this afternoon at 1pm against Iowa Lakes for a home double header and will finish up conference play this weekend with a three game series against Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, IA.
