NORFOLK, NE – On Tuesday, the Iowa Western Reiver Baseball team traveled to take on the Northeast Community College Hawks in a two game mid-week matchup. The first game the Reivers scored early and often, totaling 15 runs in the 5-inning run rule. Jared Lessman got the start for Iowa Western, throwing 2 innings before Tyler Chadwick came in. Luke Gainer finished off the game on the mound. Chadwick earned the win, Clay Cutter went 3 for 3 on the day, Carter Wright went 2 for 2 with a double, and Brady Christensen went 2 for 3 with a homerun.

Game two the Reivers lost 11-8. Eight pitchers threw in the game, surrendering 7 earned runs with another 4 scoring due to errors. Tye Wood and Noah Bush each had 3 hits on the day, with Wood coming up a double short of a cycle. Cutter and Wood both hit homeruns. Wood, Bush and Christensen hit triples.

COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA – Originally scheduled as away games, the Reivers faced Indian Hills at home as the visiting team for two games on Thursday. Braden Picket got the start the first game, throwing 3 innings only giving up 1 run while striking out 5. Dan Wright threw 2.1 innings next, only giving up 1 hit while striking out 3. Brady Christensen went 2 for 4, Tye Wood went 3 for 4, Jacob Gish hit a triple, and Carter Wright hit a double and had 2 RBI. Iowa Western lost 5 to 7.

Game two, 7 Reiver pitchers combined to hold the Warriors to 1 run. Michael Finan started on the mound, earning the win, and Grant Hubka threw the final two innings in relief to get the save. Daniel Contreras went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI and Clay Cutter went 2 for 3 with an RBI. Noah Bush picked up the final RBI while going 1 for 3 with 2 stolen bases. The final was 3 to 1.

This weekend Iowa Western hosted DMACC for a 3 game conference series. Game 1 finished in exciting fashion as Dayvin Johnson doubled down the right field line to hit in Clay Cutter and Trenton Harris to walk it off. Brant Hogue threw the first 5 innings of the game, surrendering 2 runs (1 earned) and 9 hits. Tyler Chadwick picked up the win as he threw the last 2 innings striking out 3.

The second game on Saturday started with DMACC scoring one in the top of the 1st. Iowa Western responded with 2 runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. The Reivers went on to score 7 more and hold the Warriors to only 4 more runs to win 9 to 5. Cooper Crompton started on the mound, throwing 4 innings including 3 scoreless after surrendering the one run in the first. Jared Lessman and Noah Manning threw 2.0 and 2.2 innings in relief respectively, each only allowing 1 hit. Trenton Harris led the offense for the Reivers going 2 for 3 on the day with an RBI and a double.

The final game of the series was decided by two big innings for Iowa Western. The final score was 11 to 4, with the Reivers scoring 6 in the 5th and tacking on 5 more in the 7th. Daniel Contreras went 3 for 4 and Dylan Robertson, Trenton Harris, and Brady Christensen each had 2 hits on the day. Sawyer Hansen earned the win, throwing 2 innings in relief, striking out 3 while surrendering 1 run.

This week the Reivers are back in action playing a double header against Iowa Lakes on Wednesday, and This weekend facing NIACC in a four game series.
