Iowa Western Baseball Wins Five

COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA – This past week the Iowa Western Baseball team hosted the Indian Hills Warriors in a mid-week doubleheader, and the Iowa Central Tritons in a three game weekend series.

Game 1 against Indian Hills was a 7-inning tight ball game with the Reivers coming out on top 3 to 2. Jacob Gish led the offense with 2 RBI, Whit Thoms had 2 of the 5 total hits. Jared Lessman started on the mound, recording his first win of the season, striking out 4 in 2 innings of work. Evan O'Toole fanned 3 on his way to a 2-inning save.

The second game of the day, scheduled for 9 innings, was ended after 7 due to run rule as Iowa Western won 10-0. Seven pitchers combined to throw a shutout, Adam Stanton started on the mound, throwing two innings and only giving up 2 hits on his way to his 3rd win of the season. Jacob Gish led the offense with 2 hits, including a double, and 3 RBI. Carter Wright also recorded 2 hits and 1 RBI.

The three game weekend series began with a doubleheader on Friday and finished with a single 9 inning game on Saturday. The Reivers won all 3 games, scoring 3 runs each game while holding Iowa Central to 2 runs the whole weekend, allowed during the second game.

Cooper Crompton started game 1, throwing 5 innings while striking out 8, Logan Runde finished off the Warriors for the final 2 innings. Jacob Gish led the offense yet again with 2 RBI, Dylan Robertson was 2 for 2 on the day with an HBP.

Carter Wright, Dylan Robertson, and Trenton Harris each had one RBI during the second game, Jacob Gish went 2 for 4. Brant Hogue pitched 6 scoreless innings while striking out 7 on his way to his 4th win of the season. Sawyer Hansen recorded his first save of the year, getting the final two outs of the game while walking one and striking out one.

The last game of the series the offense was led by Dylan Robertson and Alec Patino, who each recorded singles on the day, an RBI, and a Triple and a Double, respectively. Thomas Egan earned his 4th win of the season, throwing 5 innings while striking out 8. Daniel Wright threw 2 perfect frames to finish the game and the series.

The Iowa Western Reivers Baseball Team travel to take on the Northeast Community College Hawks today for a double header beginning at 1pm. On Thursday they travel to face the Indian Hills Warriors in a two-game set starting at 2pm. This weekend they will be back home, playing DMACC in a 3-game series, starting with 2 games on Saturday starting at 3pm and a single game on Sunday beginning at 2pm.
