High scoring week for the Reivers

The Iowa Western Reiver Baseball Team had a high scoring week as they traveled to play the Southwestern Community College Trojans and the Marshalltown Community College Tigers.

CRESTON, IA – A chilly and windy double header started with a one-sided affair in game one. The Reivers started scoring with 4 runs in the first, 5 runs in the second, a slight break in the 3rd, and finished the game with 3 runs in each of the 4th and 5th innings. The final was 15-0, lead by Clay Cutter who went 2 for 3 on the day with a homerun, 3 RBI and 4 runs scored. Daniel Wright started the game for Iowa Western, striking out 3 in two innings of work. He was relieved by Ryan Reyerson, Luke Gainer, and Tyler Chadwick who each threw 1 scoreless inning a piece.

Game two got off to a slower start. After a scoreless first, the Reivers scored 6 runs in the first 4 innings, when the Trojans struck back with two runs of their own. Iowa Western responded with 6 more runs in the top of the 5th. Southwestern added 6 runs of their own in the bottom of the 6th. With 8 runs in the top of the 7th, Iowa Western finished the game 20-8. Carter Wright went 3 for 5 with a homerun and 5 RBI. 7 pitchers threw in the game, with Logan Runde getting his first start and first win of the season.

MARSHALLTOWN, IA – Much like game 1 of the midweek, the first game this past weekend was a one-sided affair. The Reivers scored 15 runs to Marshalltown's 0 ending the game after 5 innings. Brant Hogue started the game for Iowa Western going 4 innings and striking out 11 on his way to his 3rd win of the season. The offense was spread pretty evenly this game, Whit Thoms led with 3 RBI, Dylan Robertson had the only double, and Carter Wright and Blake Stenger both had multiple hit games.

Game 2 on Saturday was the only game of the week to go the full length. No runs were scored in the first two innings, but the Reivers got on the board with 4 runs in the top of the 3rd. Marshalltown scored one of their own in the bottom of the inning and two more in the bottom of the 4th. Iowa Wester went on to score 11 more while the Reiver pitching staff kept the Tigers quiet for the rest of the game. Dylan Robertson led the offense, going 5 for 5 on the day, with 5 RBI and 3 runs scored. Ryan Reyerson earned the win on the mound, throwing 2.2 innings only surrendering a hit and walk. Braden Berry, Braden Pickett, and Luke Gainer each had perfect outings to end the game, throwing 1 inning a piece.

The first game on Sunday was highlighted by Alec Patino hitting for the cycle, he led the offense to a 13-2 victory after 7 innings. In addition to his four hits he also collected 5 RBI on the day and scored twice himself. Thomas Egan earned his 3rd win of the season, going 4 innings while striking out 8 Tigers. Jared Lessman struck out the side in his relief appearance, and Tyler Chadwick finished the final 2 innings striking out 2 while only surrendering 1 hit.

The final game of the weekend started with an 8 run first inning from the Reivers. They tacked on 6 more runs in the 3rd, and 4 more before the end of the game to win 18-2 in 5 innings. 5 pitchers threw 1 innings each, Grant Hubka got his first start and second win of the season, while Cooper Crompton threw a perfect frame. Auggie Rasmussen and Terrick Thompson both hit homeruns and doubles, Trenton Harris hit a double and a triple, Clay Cutter hit a homerun and tied Rasmussen with 4 RBI on the day.
