Reivers Baseball Breaks in New Field With 4 Wins

COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA – This week the Iowa Western Baseball team broke in their new field with a midweek game against Southwestern Community College and a weekend series hosting Southeastern Community College.

On Thursday the Reivers took on the Spartans in a single 9 inning game. Tyler Chadwick got the nod to start for Iowa Western, throwing 2 hitless innings. The scoring began when Whit Thoms drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Tye Wood and Carter Wright both hit singles to score two more runs to finish off the inning. Reiver pitchers kept Southwestern scoreless for the whole game, and the offense kept scoring. The game finished 10-0 after 8 innings due to run rule. Ryan Reyerson struck out 5 in his two innings of work. Dayvin Johnson and Andrew Schroeder led the offense with 2 doubles a piece, Johnson also hit a triple and Schroeder led the team with 3 RBI.

The weekend began as Brant Hogue toed the rubber for Iowa Western, throwing 3 innings and striking out 6 while allowing 1 run. The offense scored early on a Carter Wright single bringing in Dayvin Johnson. Southeastern scratched across 1 run in the 3rd and the 5th but the Reivers answered with 3 runs of their own in the bottom of the 6th. Logan Runde relieved Adam Stanton in the bottom of the 6th allowing one inherited runner to cross but ultimately collecting the save with a final score of 4-3.

Game two of the series began with a 5 run 1st inning from the Blackhawks, and though it took a few innings the Reiver offense responded with 8 runs in the game. In the 3rd Iowa Western scored 4 on an Alec Patino double, and a Jacob Gish homerun. They tacked on 2 more runs in the 4th and 6th on a Blake Stenger single and Andrew Schroeder groundout. A wild pitch scored Carter Wright and an Auggie Rasmussen sacrifice fly brought in Dylan Robertson in the 7th in response to Southeastern tacking on another run in the top of the inning. Evan O'Toole relieved Ernie Day in the top of the 1st going on to throw 6 innings of scoreless baseball, striking out 9. Braden Picket earned the win, throwing the final 3 innings of the game, striking out 4 while only allowing 1 run.

In the final game of the series Thomas Egan, Cooper Crompton, and Tyler Chadwick kept the Blackhawks scoreless for all but one inning. As Egan's outing came to a close he gave up 3 runs finishing with 5 K's in 4 innings of work. Crompton struck out 7 in 4 innings of his own. Chadwick threw the final frame of the game walking 1 and striking out 1 while earning the save. The Reivers started their scoring early, with two runs crossing in the bottom of the 1st on a Dayvin Johnson triple scoring Tye Wood, and a Jacob Gish Sac Fly, scoring Johnson. A Carter Wright Sac Fly scored Daniel Contreras in the bottom of the 2nd. The winning run wouldn't come until the 6th, when Dayvin Johnson singled to score Daniel Contreras.

Tomorrow your Reivers travel to Creston, Iowa to take on Southwestern in a double header. Game time is 1pm. This weekend they travel to Marshalltown, IA for a four-game series. Saturday games begin at 1, Sunday they start at Noon.
