Iowa Western Baseball Wins Mid-Week and Splits on Sunday

CONCORDIA, KS – Although the first inning was quiet, it quickly turned into a mid-game battle between Cloud County and Iowa Western this past Tuesday. Trenton Harris scored in the top of the second on a wild pitch, but the T-Birds took back the lead with a 3 run homerun in the bottom of the third. In the fourth, Clay Cutter hit in Auggie Rasmussen to close the gap until Cloud got a run of their own in the bottom of the inning. The Reivers scored 3 in the fifth, but the T-Birds scored 2 in the bottom of the frame, bringing the score to 5 to 6. Finally, Iowa Western broke it open in the sixth and seventh scoring 5 unanswered runs and holding on to win the game 10-6. Pitching was a platoon affair for the Reivers, with 9 pitchers throwing in the game. Grant Hubka, who collected the win for the game, as well as Braden Berry and Logan Runde all had perfect outings. Dylan Robertson, Marcus Heusohn, and Trenton Harris each hit a double and Marcus Heusohn and Alec Patino led with 2 RBI a piece.

 

BELLEVUE, NE – On Sunday the Iowa Western Reivers baseball team hosted a 3 team round robin with Des Moines Area Community College and Southwestern Community College.

The first game was against DMACC, a total of 10 pitchers threw for Iowa Western combining to hold the Bears to 3 hits and 3 runs. Unfortunately, that was all they needed as the DMACC pitchers held the Reivers to 6 hits and 2 runs. Brant Hogue struck out every batter he faced, and 5 other pitchers had perfect outings. Michael Finan was credited with the loss. Alec Patino hit 2 doubles, Jacob Gish hit 1, and Clay Cutter had the only RBI for the game.

After a game break the Reivers strapped up again to face Southwestern Community College. The scoring started with a Spartan homerun in the top of the second inning. Iowa Western answered by scoring 4 in the bottom of the fourth. A Carter Wright walk and bunt singles from Brady Christensen and Tye Wood started the inning. Reiver Pitching would hold SWCC to only 4 hits on the day, allowing 1 more run in the top of the eighth. The offense would score again in the fourth and sixth innings, finally run ruling Southwestern 12-2 after 8 innings. For the Reiver pitching staff, 8 pitchers made an appearance all throwing 1 inning. Thomas Egan, Adam Stanton and Braden Pickett all threw clean innings. Blake Stenger and Joseph Kolbeck both hit a double. Noah Bush and Joseph Kolbeck led the offense with 3 RBI a piece.

 

The Iowa Western Baseball Team will go up against Northeast Community College on Thursday at Tal Anderson Field, game time is 11am. This weekend the Reivers travel to Cedar Rapids to play a 3 game set against Kirkwood Community College, game 1 begins at 1pm on Saturday the 26th.
