Iowa Western Baseball Wins Three vs Muskegon Jayhawks

BELLEVUE, NE – This Sunday and Monday the Reiver Baseball team swept the Muskegon Community College Jayhawks in their first "home series," of the year.

Ernie Day started Game 1 for Iowa Western, throwing 4 innings, giving up 1 run, while striking out 6 on his way to his third win of the season. The offensive support came early when Auggie Rasmussen hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning to score Dylan Robertson. The bullpen was highlighted by perfect outings from Sawyer Hansen and Tyler Chadwick. Hansen throwing 2 innings, striking out 4, and Chadwick throwing the final inning of the game, striking out 2. The final score was 7-1.

The nightcap on Sunday ended early due to run rule as the Reivers won 11-1 after 8 innings. The offense combined for 14 hits, including doubles from Ryan Jeffrey, Clay Cutter, and Nelson Phillips. Clay Cutter, Daniel Contreras, Nelson Phillips, and Andrew Schroeder had 2 RBI a piece. Brant Hogue earned his second win of the season with 5 innings of work, allowing 3 hits and 1 run, while striking out 8 Jayhawks.

Monday's game began with Thomas Egan throwing a no-hit 4 innings while the offense started the scoring early. In the first inning, Dylan Robertson singled to score Noah Bush, and in the second inning Jacob Gish hit a sacrifice fly to score Trenton Harris. The Jayhawks tied it up in the top of the fifth, but the Reivers answered back with 3 more runs on an Auggie Rasmussen single, an Alec Patino sacrifice fly and a wild pitch. Jay Watson received his first win of the season as Iowa Western finished the final game of the series 11-2.

Reivers travel to Concordia, KS tomorrow for a single 9 inning game starting at 3pm.
