Iowa Western Baseball takes 4 from Garden City

GARDEN CITY, KS – The Iowa Western Reiver Baseball team took all 4 games from Garden City Community College last weekend.

In Game one, Iowa Western took the lead with a 5 run 2nd inning, and never looked back, winning the 7-inning game 12 to 0. Dylan Robertson, Trenton Harris, and Ryan Jeffrey led the offense with 3 RBI a piece. Brant Hogue toed the rubber for the Reivers, pitching a scoreless 6 innings, striking out 9 Broncbusters on the day. Grant Hubka closed the door, striking out 2 in 1 inning of work, securing the Reivers first shutout of the season.

The Reivers came out strong in the second game of the day, scoring 11 runs in the first 3 innings. This time the Broncbusters stuck around, scoring 3 runs of their own in the bottom of the 3rd. The high scoring affair ended 20 to 12 with Iowa Western coming out on top. Clay Cutter and Auggie Rasmussen each hit homeruns, Trenton Harris hit a triple, and Dylan Robertson, Joseph Kolbeck, and Tye Wood all hit doubles. Daniel Wright earned his second win of the season, starting the game for Iowa Western.

Game three saw Iowa Western jump out to an early lead yet again, scoring 4 runs in the top of the 2nd. Garden City did their best to keep it close, scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th and the 5th to make the score 10 to 4. The Reivers put the game out of reach scoring 6 more in the top of the 6th, and shut the Broncbusters down to secure the run rule victory 16 to 4. Marcus Heusohn led the offense, going 3 for 3 on the day, with two homeruns and 5 RBI. Thomas Egan secured the win on the mound, pitching 5 innings giving up 5 hits, 2 earned runs, and striking out 6. Jared Lessman pitched the final frame of the game, striking out 2 in his only inning of work.

The final game of the series started with a bang as Blake Stenger led off with a homerun. The Reivers continued their offensive showing, scoring multiple runs in each of the 3rd through 6th innings. Ernie Day started on the mound, throwing a scoreless 3 innings, striking out 5. Marcus Heusohn and Blake Stenger finished with 3 RBI each. Tyler Chadwick, Cal Higgins, Cooper Crompton, and Braden Berry combined for 4.1 innings of relief giving up 0 earned runs. Iowa Western won 12 to 5.
