Reivers Drop A Pair, Start Conference Play Saturday

The Reivers faced another change of schedule due to weather. The previously scheduled conference series with Northeast Community College was moved to Tuesday afternoon.

Game one started in a hurry with both squads putting up a run each in the first inning. Coach Rardin rolled out eight different pitchers in the first 7 inning game vs NECC. The Reivers pitching allowed 10 hits, 5 walks, 2 strikeouts, and 5 earned runs. Michael Finan leads the way for the staff throwing 2 complete innings while allowing only 1 hit. Leading the offense for the Reivers sophomore Kyle Huckstorf, 3 for 3 with a double, 2 walks, RBI, and 3 runs scored. Dylan Robertson followed suit also having 3 hits going 3 for 5 with a double and 2 RBI's.

The Reivers ran into trouble in the top of the 3rd inning giving up 4 runs. Davyin Johnson (0-1) gave up 2 runs on no hits in his appearance, Jake Leger came in to get the Reivers out of a jam. Leger allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in that inning. The Reivers answered back in the bottom of the fourth with a pair of runs by a Dylan Robertson RBI double, followed by a Carter Wright RBI single. NECC answered back with a run in the 5th inning. In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Reivers found a run by a bases-loaded walk. The offense stranded three runners in that inning. In the final inning, the Reivers found another run but stranded runners on second and third to end game 1 of the doubleheader. NECC won game one 6-5.

In-game two Brant Hogue took the mound for the Reivers. The Hawks scored one run in the top of the first inning. The Reiver offense then answered with Brady Prewitt's 3-run double in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead 3-1. The defense ran into trouble as the Hawks scored 7 runs in the top of the second inning to take the lead 8-3. The Reiver bats were held in check until the bottom of the fourth inning when Trenton Harris came through with an RBI double cutting the NECC lead to 8-4.  That would be the last run the Reiver offense would score as the game ended after five complete innings due to darkness. Isaac Arnold came in and pitched a scoreless third inning while striking out 2. Samson Holcomb also threw 2 innings in relief while giving up only one hit and striking out one.

The Reivers fall to 9-4 on the season and will be back in action for a home ICCAC conference series against Ellsworth Community College on March 20th-21st. First pitch scheduled for 1:00 pm at Doc Ross Field.  Both games can be watched on the Reiver Sports Network.
