Reivers All-time Hits Leader Joins Athletics Hall of Fame

COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA

Reiver Baseball's 'Big Bopper' moved to the mountain top on Friday in Council Bluffs as the Iowa Western Athletic Department held its 2019 Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

Doug Kroll, from South Jordan, Utah, joined Kasandra Anderson (Women's Soccer), Cherelle George (Women's Basketball) & Greg Timmer (Men's Soccer) in the Athletics Hall of Fame.

After debating whether to even continue playing baseball in college after a stellar four years in High School, Kroll had a tremendous career as a standout first baseman and outfielder for the Reivers.

Iowa Western qualified for the NJCAA JUCO World Series tournament during both of his seasons, with Kroll earning the 2007 NJCAA National Player of the Year award.

The slugger put up monster numbers for the Reivers and still holds the career records for batting average (.446), slugging percentage (.834), at-bats (397), RBIs (160), runs (143), hits (177) and home runs (37).

After his time at Iowa Western, Kroll moved on to play for Oklahoma State and helped the Cowboys to an NCAA regional final in the 2009 season.

Doug joins David Hogan, Robert Warn, Jeff Brisson, Jim Tjader, Mike Wulbecker, Scott Pose and Jon Lieber as individual Baseball players in the Hall, while the 1974-75, 76-77, 77-78, 88-89, 90-91 and 09-10 teams are all enshrined in Council Bluffs.
