NJCAA D1 Baseball All-American list released, 3 Reivers among honorees

Colorado Springs, Colorado -

The NJCAA released their 2018 D1 Baseball All-American teams today and not surprisingly Iowa Western baseball had quite a presence. 'Team 44', as they were called by close followers, earned three spots.

Right-handed pitcher Sean Chandler led the way for the Reivers, earning one of three pitching spots on the 1st team. Chandler, a 6th round MLB draft pick by the Texas Rangers, was 11-0 with a nation's best 1.34 ERA. The Bellevue, Nebraska native is committed to Tulane University if he continues his collegiate career.

2018 Reivers' homerun leader Tyler Reichenborn snagged a spot on the 2nd team. The sophomore from Blaine, Minnesota not only led Iowa Western in homers, but also RBI (50), stolen bases (19), triples (8), runs scored (60), walks (33), slugging percentage (.670) and on-base percentage (.522). Reichenborn is signed to play in the fall for St. Louis University if he does not reach a contract agreement with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The defending National League Champions selected the centerfielder in the 35th round of last week's MLB draft.

Rounding out the selections for Head Coach Marc Rardin's squad was right-handed pitcher Indigo Diaz. Diaz was 11-1 as a sophomore, striking out 101 batters while issuing only 20 walks. The Honorable Mention selection is a native of Vancouver, British Columbia and is slated to join the Spartans of Michigan State to continue his collegiate career in the fall.

The Reivers finished 2018 as the Northern District's representative in the JUCO World Series. It was the 18th appearance overall for Iowa Western in Grand Junction, Colorado and 11th in the last 14 years. 'Team 44' won 36 consecutive games and finished with the 4th highest victory total in program history at 54-7 overall.
