Wild Weekend Leads to Series Split with Trojans

In a wild weekend, Iowa Western goes 2-2 with visiting NIACC Trojans.

Game 1 saw NIACC capitalize on free bases by the Reivers in a 7-5 loss.  The Trojans scored 5 of their 7 runs on walks issued by the Reiver pitching staff.  Sean Chandler (RS/SO, Bellevue, NE) took the no-decision after going 4-innings pitched racking up 9 strikeouts and 1-earned run.  Carter Akerfelds (FR, Littleton, CO) takes the loss in 2 innings of relief.  offensively, Ross Indlecoffer (FR, Vadnais Heights, MN) was on base 4 times in 4 plate appearances with 2 BBs, a HBP, and an error.  Ryan Sullivan (SO, Aurora, CO) went 2-4 with a 3B, a Run, and an RBI for the Reivers.

An interesting Game 2 gave the Reivers the first win of the weekend 5-4.  Iowa Western found itself down 4-2 after 4 innings.  The offense then got the lead-0ff man on base the next 2 innings to tie it after 6.  At this point, due to darkness the game had to be postponed until the next morning.  Indigo Diaz (SO, Vancouver, BC, Can) used only 7 pitches in the top of the 7th setting the table for the Reivers to win in Walk-off fashion thanks to a Tyler Reichenborn (SO, Brookland Park, MN) 2B to RF.  Diaz picked up the win as Reichenborn went 3-5 with a 2B, and RBI and a SB.

The Reivers carried that momentum into Game 3 as Diaz threw 5 1/3 innings before handing the ball off to Keaton Winn (SO Ollia, IA) for his first save of the season.  Diaz, in Game 3, struck out 9 as he scattered 3 hits. Winn struck out 4 in 1 2/3 innings of work. Brandon Bena (SO, Omaha, NE) went 3-3 with a 2B, 2 runs scored, and an RBI to go along with Sullivan's 1-2 with 2 runs scored and a HBP.  Indlecoffer also went 2-3 with a 2B and 2 RBIs and Benjamin Sneider (SO, Larkspur, CO) added a sac-fly RBI to round out the scoring.  Iowa Western won Game 3 4-0.

Game 4 witnessed the Reiver offense struggle to get goign as they were outscored 5-2.  Kobe Hyland (SO, Spruce Grove, ALB, Can) went 1-2 with a 2B, a HBP, and scored the lone runs for Iowa Western as Tanner Holen (SO, Manhattan, KS) and Isaiah Peterson (FR, Lincoln, NE) each had an RBI respectfully.  Winn takes the loss in 1 1/3 innings of relief.  Parker Shreve (SO, Cody, WY) retired all 5 of the batters eh faced to close out the game.

The Reivers will be back in action on Wednesday, March 21st at 1pm as they host DMACC.
