2019 Fall Sports Earn Reivers 14 More NJCAA All-Americans

COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA

Six 2019 Reiver fall sports teams raked in the victories, five National Tournament appearances, and a National Champ!  As a result, Iowa Western Athletics is adding to the NJCAA All-American board.

Reivers Volleyball, Men's Soccer, Women's and Men's Cross Country and Football all had student-athletes contribute to the list:

MEN'S SOCCER

1st Team - Fitzroy Cummings | R-Freshman Defender | Clarendon, Tollgate, Jamaica

A year after suffering a season-ending preseason injury, the R-Freshman defender started 16 matches for the Reivers in 2019, scoring four goals and adding one assist in the Reivers run to the NJCAA National Championships.

3rd Team - Damia Viader | Sophomore Defender | Barcelona, Spain

A transfer from Barton CC, Damia wasted little time making his presence known on the Iowa Western campus.  The sophomore started 17 of 18 matches and was third on the team in goals scored (9) and 2nd in assists (12) for a total of 30 points on the year.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

1st Team - Faith Linga Chepingat | Freshman | Eldoret, Kenya

The first National Champion in Reiver Women's Cross Country program history, Faith topped the nearest competitor at the NJCAA National Meet by 13 seconds, her time of 16:49 was the second-highest mark ever posted at the NJCAA competition.

FOOTBALL

1st Team - Devin Drew | Sophomore Defensive End | Kansas City, Missouri

The ICCAC's Defensive Player of the Year recorded a team-high 9.5 sacks and 17 tackles for loss on the season, also recovering a pair of fumbles and forcing another.

1st Team - Marcus Haskins | R-Sophomore Strong Safety | St. Paul, Minnesota

The team leader in the defensive backfield, Haskins also led the Reivers with seven interceptions on the year.

1st Team | ZaQuandre White | Sophomore Running Back | Ft. Myers, Florida

After playing linebacker at Florida State last season, White transferred to IWCC to play running back.  Despite missing four games due to injury, White led the Reivers in rushing, amassing 876 yards and 10 touchdowns.  He also led the Reivers in all-purpose yards with 1138 yards, 600 more than his next closest teammate.

2nd Team | Jacob Gamble | R-Sophomore Offensive Line | Doylestown, Ohio

After beginning his career at Ventura College, Gamble transferred to Iowa Western where he improved his strength and increased his stock.  Bound for West Virginia University, Gamble was a stalwart on the Reivers offensive line this season.

2nd Team | Chase Contreraz | R-Freshman Kicker | Missouri Valley, Iowa

Contreraz provided the Reivers stability on the kicking front, knocking in 15 field goals on the year and 44 extra points to lead the team in scoring.  The former Missouri Valley 'Big Red' has verbally committed to play for the 'Big Red' of the University of Nebraska next season.

Honorable Mention | Dominic Quewon | R-Sophomore Defensive End | Minneapolis, Minnesota

After a stellar freshman campaign, Quewon sat his sophomore season to focus on academics.  This year he brought the same focus he used in the classroom onto the field, ranking third on the team in tackles, racking up five quarterback sacks for one of the stingiest defenses ever to take the field for the Reivers.

Honorable Mention | Averie Habas | R-Freshman Linebacker | Rice Lake, Wisconsin

A nose for the football led to the second consecutive 100+ tackle season.  Habas added nine more tackles to the century mark during the Graphic Edge Bowl, finishing with 71 solo tackles out of 109 total takedowns on the year.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

1st Team - Kassim Kibet | Freshman | Eldoret, Kenya

Kibet raced to a third-place finish at the NJCAA National Meet with a time of 24:06.  Along with teammate Shawn Kiptoo, the pair set the standard for the Reivers with the Top 1-2 finish in program history.

2nd Team - Shawn Kiptoo | Freshman | Eldoret, Kenya

Shawn Kiptoo finished just six seconds out of a 1st team spot but helped to secure the top 1-2 finish for the Reivers in school history as teammate Kassim Kibet took 3rd place overall.

VOLLEYBALL

1st Team - Genesis Sheridan | Sophomore Middle Blocker | Crystal Lake, Illinois

Genesis becomes just the 5th Reiver to become a 2-time 1st team All-American.  The sophomore played in 133 sets for the Reivers, leading the team with a .378 attack percentage.  The Colorado State recruit also ranked 2nd on the team in blocks with 94 total blocks.

2nd Team - Kortyln Henderson | R-Sophomore Outside Hitter | Waco, Texas

Kortlyn Henderson ranked in the Top 5 of the NJCAA and was first on the team in both kills (361) and kills per set (2.71).  Her .283 attack percentage ranked her second on the team and her 70 blocks were good for third-most for the Reivers this season.
